A video released at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event this weekend gives guests a sneak peek at the Haunted Mansion Lounge coming soon to Disney Cruise Line’s Treasure and Destiny ships.
Haunted Mansion Living Room Overview
Watch the video in our embedded X post and continue reading for more information.
The Haunted Mansion Lounge will be located adjacent to the Grand Hall of Ships, where the Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge is located on the Disney Wish. As seen in an artist’s rendering, guests will enter through an alcove featuring ghostly portraits straight out of the Haunted Mansion, as well as a Haunted Mansion Lounge sign.
The video includes glimpses into the creation of the show’s moving and changing artworks, inspired by the attraction’s iconic portrait gallery.
Here’s our first look at a new piece that appears to be inspired by the sea god Poseidon or his son, Triton. It resembles Triton’s appearance in “The Little Mermaid,” albeit with legs instead of a mermaid tail. He has the same white beard, three-pointed crown, and trident. He rides a giant seahorse.
In a bolt of lightning, the man and his seahorse become skeletons.
Another piece depicts a ship with tattered sails caught in a storm.
This piece depicts the original captain of the Parlor, who died after a dinner with his fiancée. According to previously published information, the captain’s “lifelong dream of serving on a luxury liner was cut short after his untimely passing, but his joyful soul lived on in his private salon.” Disney Cruise Line has previously released a before and after of this portrait depicting the captain in his living form and then as a skeleton.
In the video, the skeletal captain nods his head, moves his eyes and opens his mouth, indicating that he may be able to speak to the guests.
One of the unique features of the Haunted Mansion Lounge will be the “Ghost Fish Aquarium,” originally designed by imaginary artist Rolly Crump for the Museum of the Weird. The attraction never came to life, but some of Crump’s creations were incorporated into the Haunted Mansion. Others will come to life in the Haunted Mansion Lounge, alongside a bust of Crump.
The screenshot above shows the aquarium before it received all its dressings. Bubbles float from the bottom and skeletal fish swim inside.
In the screenshot above you can see one of these fish.
Another set of clips shows the aquarium finished with metal edges and a chain. It also features fresh green algae on its glass.
The fish are lighter in the finished aquarium. They appear to glow blue when swimming together.
Disney Treasure will embark on its maiden voyage in December, while Disney Destiny will launch in 2025. Check out more Haunted Mansion Parlor art and props on display at D23, plus our first look at Haunted Mansion Parlor cast costumes.
